Hours & Daily Schedule
Attendance/Daytime Dismissal
If your student will be absent from school, please call the attendance line at 651-403-7407. (Available 24-hours a day)
If the line is not answered, please leave a message including the student's name, grade, date of absence, and reason for absence.
Families are also encouraged to use this link to report attendance.
Early Pick-Ups
Please send a note with your student on the morning of the absence stating the date, time, and reason for the early dismissal. The student should bring the note to the office first thing in the morning. Office staff will send the student a SmartPass (app on District-issued iPad) to leave early and record their absence in Infinite Campus. At the time indicated on the pass, the student can leave and come to the office where a parent/guardian must come in to sign the student out. Parents/guardians are asked to try and schedule appointments before or after the school day.
Late Arrivals
No need to call the office to report a late arrival - send a note with your student, and the office will adjust their attendance in Infinite Campus.
Cell Phones & Electronics
Cell phones are valuable and important communicative devices in today’s world. However, use of cell phones during the instructional day seriously impedes and distracts from the learning process. Heritage Middle School will not allow the use of cell phones during the school day (8:45 a.m. - 3:20 p.m.). Students should leave their cell phones in their lockers, or at home. Below are the procedures that will be used by Friendly Hills staff if a student has their cell phone out during the academic school day:
Heritage Technology Procedures
Cell Phone Procedure
Purpose:
- To provide clear guidelines for Heritage students and families about cell phone usage in school.
- To support a community focus on learning, inclusivity, and empathy for students and staff at Heritage.
Student Expectations:
Students may bring cell phones, electronic devices, and accessories to school at their own risk; however, students must abide by the following expectations:
Cell phones and related items must be turned off and put away from 8:45 AM until 3:20 PM. Cell phones may not be used, seen, or heard during the school day.
- Cell phone usage in learning spaces, hallways, bathrooms, and the cafeteria is not allowed.
- Cell phones may not be used to photograph, record, or video-record anyone in the school building.
Consequences:
If students do not follow the expectations given above, the following steps will be taken. Please note that students who do not turn in their phones when required will move directly to the third or fourth level offense.
- 1st Offense and 2nd Offense: Collected and Documented
- Parents/guardians will be notified. Students may pick up their phones from the office at the end of the day.
- 3rd Offense: Collected and Documented
- Parents/guardians will be notified. Parents/guardians must collect the phone from the office.
- 4th Offense: Collected and Documented
Parents/guardians will be notified and will conference with an administrator. Students will check in their phones at the office at the start of each school day for the remainder of the year.
iPad Policy
Purpose:
- Teachers and staff believe in the ability of technology to enhance and personalize learning.
- Students use iPads to access course content, complete homework, collaborate and communicate with classmates, conduct research, and more.
Student Expectations:
- It is expected that all school-owned iPads will be brought to school each day, stay in good condition throughout each school year, and remain in an acceptable working order.
- If a school-owned iPad or device charger is lost or damaged, it is the student’s responsibility to pay the replacement fee. Students should report any loss, damage, or theft as soon as possible.
- iPads may not be used to send inappropriate messages, pictures, or videos at any time. Devices are school property and are used for school purposes only in safe, legal, and responsible ways.
Consequences:
If students do not follow the expectations given above, the following steps can be taken:
- Turning in the iPad at the end of the day
- Restrictions placed on the device
- Use of paper copies
- iPad is collected and no longer used
Health-Related Absences
Parents/guardians often question if students should stay home or attend school. The following guidelines are provided to help with this decision:
Fever over 100 degrees
Stay home for 24 hours after temperature returns to normal without the use of fever-reducing medication.
Vomiting or diarrhea
Stay home for 24 hours after last episode.
Excessive coughing
Child can bring cough drops to school and self-administer if parents send cough drops and a note granting permission for child's use at school.
Rash with unknown cause
Check with physician before sending to school.
Eye redness with green/yellow drainage
Check with physician before sending to school.
If you are keeping your child home for any reason, please call the attendance line (651-403-7407) in the morning. Give your name, your child's name, and their grade. Please tell us if your child has a fever over 100, vomiting, diarrhea, or severe upper respiratory symptoms, as we track these during flu season.
Visitors During the School Day
Family and community members are welcome to visit Heritage during the school day, provided the visit is consistent with the health, education, and safety of students and employees. Visitors (parents, guardians, short-term substitute teachers, volunteers, contractors, vendors, etc.) MUST enter and exit through the main entrance and complete the check-in or check-out process. All other entrances to the building are locked and secured and are not entrances for visitors.
During the check-in process, visitors will be asked the purpose for their visit and the staff member with which they have scheduled an appointment. They will also be given a badge that must be worn for the duration of the visit. All regular volunteers must follow this process throughout the year.
