Music

Students at Heritage E-STEM Magnet School have the opportunity to participate in several options for music learning classes. Students in grades 5-8 participate in band, choir, or orchestra as a music performance choice. Music classes meet every other day for the whole school year.

CONCERT POLICIES
It is a Heritage E-STEM Magnet School Music Department policy that performances are an element of the curriculum and we do require attendance as a student responsibility in this class. This is a performing arts class and the concert is a part of the student's grade.

MUSIC CURRICULUM
The curriculum for middle school music classes is based on the National Standards for the Arts and the Minnesota State Standards for the Arts. The curriculum was written by the middle school music teachers in District 197 and is based on a framework of learner goals, learning activities, and evidence of learning. This framework is then adapted for each music class offered at the middle school level. The link below is the framework document for the middle schools. For individual content areas please go to that areas web page link.

Learner Goals for Middle School Music

  • Students will respond to music using a framework that helps to develop their musical understanding.
  • Students will expand their foundational music knowledge.
